The Jelly Nail Trend: Korean Syrup Finishes & Translucent Art

In the traditional manicure world, gel polishes are judged by their opacity—clients expect rich, full-coverage pigment in one or two coats. However, the viral jelly nail trend (originated in South Korean and Japanese nail salons under the name syrup nails) turns this concept upside down.

Jelly gel polishes are formulated with transparent optical clear resin infused with high-grade, micro-milled transparent dyes rather than opaque solid titanium dioxide pigments. When cured under LED light, jelly gel behaves like colored stained glass or tinted hard candy: it allows optical light to pass directly through the coating, reflecting the natural pink tissue of the nail bed underneath while imparting a luminous, dewy wash of translucent color.

The hallmark of the Korean syrup manicure is the radial blush ombré, where color is concentrated in the center or tip of the nail like a drop of sweet strawberry syrup spreading outward:

1. Milky Base Application: Apply a single sheer layer of milky white or translucent nude rubber base. Cure 30 seconds.
